“I couldn’t have done this without you!” A client recently shared this with me while we were talking about finalizing the implementation of his new CRM software and going live with his team.
Did I do everything alone and just press a button to make it work? No, I needed his input to make sure everything was setup correctly, customer communication looked the way he wanted, and products were linked correctly.
Did he spend hours configuring new software instead of working on and growing his business? No, he outsourced the details to someone who could give it the focus it required.
Was he still worried he shouldn’t have made this change? Absolutely, as evidenced by the number of times he asked, “Do you think I made the right choice?” My answer: “Yes, I’m excited how this is going to help your office and field staff.”
Change is hard, especially when you can’t pull yourself away from your business needs to implement it. And new software requires change to your current operations to ensure that your business is going to run smoothly. Custom software is expensive, so implementing an “out of the box” solution requires documenting your operations and tweaking them to work with this new solution.
For example, you don’t enter customer information into a notebook or spreadsheet anymore. It gets entered as a “lead” in your new CRM software. And this “lead” goes through a defined process to become a customer who purchases your product or service and eventually pays you. This process is usually standardized by the software, with some personalized tweaks from you.
Honestly, it’s a bit more than just “some” personalized tweaks, which is why you should consider outsourcing this work. First, it’s tedious and usually requires digging into spreadsheets with hundreds (or thousands!) of rows of data. Second, you need someone to review your current processes and redesign them to work with the new software. And third, you need time to test everything to make sure it works before it goes live. How much time do you have to do all of this?
Sometimes, it takes two to make things to right. And that’s OK.
