There are a million “influencers” on social media who brag about their morning routine and try to insist that their way is the only way. Up at 4, meditation, lemon water, workout, journal, etc. all before work. But what about their routine once they start work? Or the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly routines for their business?
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s important to have a routine to give yourself peace of mind and the ability to switch your mind off. As the polar opposite of a morning person, it’s imperative that I set out my workout clothes the night before and have everything in its place for me to be able to get out of bed and get straight to my workout (and yes, I drink a large glass of water before my feet hit the floor). And I follow a routine when I get ready for the day and when I get ready for bed. It’s easy, it’s repeatable, and it allows me to not waste brain energy on things that aren’t important.
And you know what happens when I accidentally deviate from my routine? Things get missed and it throws off my day. When I graduated from college and moved to Boston, I had a morning routine that was easy to follow as I transitioned to being a “fully functioning adult”. And one morning, for whatever reason, I missed brushing my teeth (I’m pretty sure I put my toothbrush down in the wrong place the night before). And I spent my ride into work on the T wondering why I felt off. And then I realized I didn’t brush my teeth, had to get off the train one stop early to buy a toothbrush and toothpaste, and brush my teeth before I got to my desk. It made me late and threw off my whole day.
If a morning routine is important to get your personal life in order, don’t you think it would help your business as well? By standardizing your processes, your business can be more efficient and reduce costs. It will give your employees the ability to focus their brain energy on the important problems, not the usual routine. And it will give you the ability to relax and be confident that you know your business is being run correctly and your customers are being better served. And documenting your standard processes - and the procedure to follow in case something out of the ordinary occurs - will give your employees the skills and knowledge to perform the work that needs to be done.
Are you overwhelmed thinking about what’s next? Creating or improving standard processes ensures you are delivering the same quality product and/or service to your customers every time. Contact me todayto learn more https://beckinsights.com/take-action
